The Taylor Hardin Secure Medical Facility was established by the Alabama Department of Mental Health in 1981 on the campus of Bryce Hospital in Tuscaloosa, Tuscaloosa County. It was intended to house people with mental health issues who are also deemed by the state to be violent or criminal.
