Camp Sibert Entrance

Camp Sibert was established in Etowah County in 1942 as the nation's first Chemical Warfare Center. It was named for Etowah County native Maj. Gen. William L. Sibert (1860-1935), who was the first head of the Chemical Warfare Service created during World War I. It closed two years later.
