On May 1, 1904, railroad bridge engineer Joshua Lafayette Mitchell and his family were the subject of a story in the Atlanta Constitution after the completion of the bridge he built over Newfound Creek in Jefferson County. Known as the No. 10 Trestle, it was at the time the highest wooden train trestle in the world and gained Mitchell wide attention.
