Montgomery Interpretive Center
The Montgomery Interpretive Center sits on the campus of
Alabama State University
in
Montgomery
,
Montgomery County
. Opened in spring 2020, it is overseen by the National Park Service (NPS) and is the third and final such center commemorating the
1965 Selma to Montgomery marches
prompted by the death of
civil rights
activist
Jimmy Lee Jackson
and advocating for African American
voting rights
. The two other centers are the
Selma Interpretive Center
in
Selma
,
Dallas County
, at the foot of the
Edmund Pettus
Bridge and the
Lowndes Interpretive Center
in
Lowndes County
on U.S. Highway 80 West. Just east of this center is the memorial for activist
Viola Gregg Liuzzo
