King Monument in Selma
This monument to
Martin Luther King Jr.
stands in front of the historic
Brown Chapel AME Church
in
Selma
,
Dallas County
. It was dedicated in 1979 to honor King's efforts in the
civil rights movement
in Alabama, most notable in the
Selma to Montgomery March
. The monument also features the names of three martyrs to the cause:
Jimmie (spelled Jimmy on the monument) Lee Jackson
,
Viola Gregg Liuzzo
, and
James Reeb
.
