Planet Sedna

Shown here in this artist's conception, Sedna is a minor planet on the outer fringes of the Solar System in what is known to scientists as the "scattered disc," a ring of objects that circle the Sun beyond the planet Neptune. They are often lumped together under the name trans-Neptunian objects. Sedna is so far from the Sun that it takes 11,400 years to complete one revolution. It is among several celestial bodies discovered or co-discovered by astronomer Mike Brown, a native of Huntsville, Madison County. The name is that of an Inuit goddess of the sea.
