Reverie

Reverie is a historic house museum in Marion, Perry County. It was built around 1858 by planter and railroad magnate Joseph Thompson Whitsitt, who was forced to sell it during the Civil War. The home was for a time occupied by federal troops, who used it as a headquarters. The Greek Revival mansion has changed hands numerous times since that time but has always been a private residence; it is currently open for tours by appointment. It earned the name Reverie in 1944 from owner William T. Weissinger, a doctor who had served as the private physician of Gen. Douglas MacArthur during World War II.
