Mobile Point and Fort Bowyer

Fort Bowyer was constructed by the U.S. government in 1813 on the easternmost tip of Mobile Point in Mobile Bay. Built as a defensive installation during the War of 1812, the fort was augmented by several gun emplacements armed with howitzers, as shown in the positions marked 3 and 4.
