Fort Cusseta

These early twentieth century structures sit on the former site of Fort Cusseta, located in Chambers County near the town of Cusseta. The fort was constructed in the years prior to the Second Creek War of 1836. It is one of few surviving examples of a log fort and was constructed by the local settlers as a refuge from attacks by the Lower Creeks. A historic marker interpreting the site sits on the side of the road at the far right.
