Pete Jarman

Greensboro native and Democrat Peterson "Pete" Bryant Jarman Jr. (1892-1955) represented Alabama's Sixth District in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1937-1949, traveling extensively as a member of the Foreign Affairs Committee and promoting veteran affairs. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I and served as Alabama secretary of state and assistant state comptroller prior to his tenure in Washington, D.C. Late in life, Jarman was U.S. Ambassador to Australia from 1949-1953.
