John Lomax Sr. and Richard Brown

John Avery Lomax Sr. and Richard Brown greet each other at the home of Julia Killingsworth in Sumterville, Sumter County, in late 1940, when Lomax recorded 10 songs by Brown. An ethnomusicologist, Lomax collected recordings of folk music for the Archive of American Folk Songs at the Library of Congress beginning in 1933. In Alabama, Lomax worked closely with folk scholar and Livingston native Ruby Pickens Tartt.
