A drawing of Bride's Hill plantation in the Courtland vicinity of Lawrence County. An example of a Tidewater-type plantation home, it was built in 1830 by transplanted Virginian Robert H. Dandridge. Unusual in Alabama, its design followed the double-square formula employed by colonial Virginia house builders in which the front elevation is almost exactly twice as long as it is high, counting the slope of the roof. It later became part of the estate of Joseph Wheeler's daughter Ann and was known as "Sunnybrook." Well documented and on the Alabama Register of Landmarks and Heritage, it has been uninhabited since the 1980s and is in a severe state of disrepair.
