Gorgas Steam Plant, ca. 1920s

Alabama Power Company's Warrior Reserve Steam Plant on the Warrior River in Walker County began operations in 1917. It was later renamed in honor of esteemed medical researcher and Alabama native William Crawford Gorgas. During the early 1920s, the plant supplied power for construction of Wilson Dam at Muscle Shoals.
