Jeanes Supervisors in Calhoun County

Jeanes Supervisors pose on the steps of a school in Calhoun County. They were a group of African American women who taught in rural communities throughout Alabama and the American South from the early 1900s until school desegregation efforts in the 1960s largely ended the need.
