James Madison

James Madison (1751-1836) was the fourth president of the United States (1809-1817) and one of the nation's Founding Fathers. He was a principle author of the U.S. Constitution, the Federalist Papers, and the Bill of Rights, and served in the U.S. Congress and as Thomas Jefferson's Secretary of State before assuming the presidency.
