Lowndes County Freedom Organization, Part 2

In May 1966, the Lowndes County Freedom Organization nominated Black candidates for political office. Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee leader Stokely Carmichael delivered motivational speeches in the tense months leading to the general elections, but all seven African American candidates were defeated.
