Mother Angelica and Archbishop Toolen
Mother Angelica and Archbishop Toolen
In the late 1950s,
Mother Angelica
received support from
Archbishop Thomas Toolen
of the
Archdiocese of Mobile
to build the Our Lady of the Angels Monastery that was dedicated in May 1962 in
Irondale
,
Jefferson County
. In the 1990s, Mother Angelica moved the monastery to the
Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament
in
Hanceville
,
Cullman County
. Here, Mother Angelica, left, is seen displaying a model of the monastery to Toolen and Mother Veronica. The
Eternal Word Television Network
that was founded in 1980 by Mother Angelica broadcasts from the former monastery.
