St. Peter's Fishing Lures

In the 1950s, Mother Angelica and other members of the Poor Clares Franciscan order began a fishing lure business to raise funds for a monastery. They named it St. Peter's Fishing Lures for the former fisherman widely considered by the Catholic Church as its first Pope. Ultimately, the Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament and a new Our Lady of the Angels Monastery in Hanceville, Cullman County, were funded by five families and a private foundation.
