Erosion

Erosion became widespread in Alabama as a result of poor land-management practices, including excess tilling and repeated cultivation of crops such as cotton, which draw large amounts of nutrients from the soil. Crop rotation and, more recently, zero-tillage farming have done much to improve the quality of soils in Alabama, and other farming regions.
