Speer Family

The Speer Family gospel group was formed in 1921 by George and Lena Thomas and Pearl (George Claborn's sister) and Logan Claborn. During the 1940s, the group performed on a popular radio show in Montgomery, Montgomery County, that led to their growing fame in Alabama. The group expanded to include many more Speer family members over the next seven decades. It was inducted into the Alabama Hall of Fame in 1997 and retired in 1998.
