The U.S. Snagboat Montgomery lies moored on the Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway near the Tom Bevill Visitor Center and Museum near Pickensville, Pickens County. This type of steamboat was called a "snagboat" because it travelled up and down the river removing hazardous sunken logs, known as "snags." The Montgomery was in service with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers from 1926 to 1959 in the Coosa, Black Warrior, and Tombigbee river systems. It was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1989 and moved to its current location in 2003. It is one of only two remaining steam-powered sternwheel snagboats in the United States.
