W. B. Davis Hosiery Mill

The W. B. Davis Hosiery Mill in Fort Payne, DeKalb County was constructed in 1889 as the Alabama Builders' Hardware Manufacturing Company and was one of four buildings on the property. By 1909, it was operating as a hosiery mill and was purchased around 1915 by textile manufacturer W. B. Davis and played a significant role in the city's "sock boom." The mill was in operation until 1974. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986 and is the only remaining nineteenth-century industrial building left in the city.
