Louis Washington Turpin

Louis Washington Turpin (1849-1903) was a politician and planter who represented Alabama's Fourth and Ninth Congressional Districts from 1889 to 1895. A staunch white supremacist, Turpin refused to adapt to Alabama's changing political landscape, which included the expansion of Black voters, and lost his seat in the U.S. Congress to the more progressive Oscar W. Underwood.
