Dodge City

Fishing on Lewis Smith Lake Dodge City is located in central Cullman County in the north-central part of the state. It has a mayor/city council form of government.

History

Dodge City was incorporated in 1993.

Demographics

According to 2020 Census estimates, Dodge City recorded a population of 564. Of that number, 95.2 percent of respondents identified themselves as white, 2.8 percent as two or more races, and 2.0 as African American. The town’s median household income was $42,679, and the per capita income was $26,079.

According to 2020 Census estimates, the workforce in Dodge City was divided among the following industrial categories:

Education

Students in Dodge City attend Cullman County schools; no public schools are located within the town limits.

Transportation

Much of Dodge City lies along State Highway 69 that runs southwest-northeast. County Road 223 runs northwest from town and County Road 216 runs north from town. Interstate Highway 65 passes through the extreme eastern part of town, running north-south.

Events and Places of Interest

Dodge City maintains a nature trail near the town hall, which houses a community center. Perry Ray Park, named for the first mayor, has playground equipment for children. The town is located just to the east of Lewis Smith Lake, which offers water activities, particularly boating and fishing. To the northwest, Smith Lake Park provides camping and swimming and other recreational activities. A bit further to the west, Bankhead National Forest offers camping and hiking and horseback trails.
