Of that number, 95.8 percent of respondents identified themselves as white, 3.4 percent as African American, 0.5 percent as Asian 0.3 percent as Hispanic, 0.2 percent as two or more races, and 0.1 percent as American Indian. The town's median household income was $57,102, and the per capita income was $25,984.

Located northwest of Birmingham, Sylvan Springs is accessed by State Highway 269. The town is fewer than 20 miles to the west of Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport.
