Henagar is located in northeast DeKalb County in the northeast corner of the state. The Louvin Brothers traditional music duo spent much of their childhood in Henagar. It has a mayor/council form of government.
History

Demographics
According to 2016 Census estimates, Henagar recorded a population of 2,344. Of that number, 88.3 percent of respondents identified themselves as white, 6.7 percent as Hispanic or Latino, 2.6 percent as two or more races, 2.5 percent as Native American, and 0.6 percent as Asian. The town's median household income was $35,694, and the per capita income was $19,075.

According to 2016 Census estimates, the workforce in Henagar was divided among the following industrial categories:
- Manufacturing (25.7 percent)
- Educational services, and health care and social assistance (19.6 percent)
- Retail trade (16.4 percent)
- Construction (11.6 percent)
- Transportation and warehousing and utilities (7.9 percent)
- Arts, entertainment, recreation, and accommodation and food services (5.6 percent)
- Professional, scientific, management, and administrative and waste management services (3.6 percent)
- Other services, except public administration (3.2 percent)
- Wholesale trade (2.6 percent)
- Public administration (1.6 percent)
- Agriculture, forestry, fishing and hunting, and extractive (1.3 percent)
- Finance, insurance, and real estate, rental, and leasing (1.0 percent)
Education
Schools in Henagar are part of the DeKalb County School System; the town has one junior high school.
Transportation
State Highway 40 runs roughly east-west through the city, and State Highway 75 roughly north-south. Several country roads also serve the area.
Events and Places of Interest
The Sand Mountain Potato Festival is held in July in Henagar to pay tribute to the area's potato farming roots. It features a car show, arts and crafts fair, a horseshoe tournament, live music, children's games, and food vendors, some featuring the potato.
The Hawkins Place is listed on the Alabama Register of Landmarks and Heritage.
