John D. S. Davis (1859-1931) and his brother William made significant contributions to the advancement of the medical profession and medical research in Alabama in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. John served as president of the Medical Association of the State of Alabama in 1928 and headed many other professional organizations, including the American Obstetrical and Gynecological Association and the Southern Surgical and Gynecological Association.
