Anna T. Jeanes

Anna T. Jeanes (1822-1907) was a philanthropist best known for her work in promoting education for rural African Americans in the South. Shortly before her death, she established the Jeanes Fund and the Jeanes Supervisors education program in 16 southern states, including Alabama. Jeanes was born and raised in Philadelphia and also provided the funds in her will to establish Jeanes Hospital, now part of the Temple University healthcare system.
