Air University Logo

The Air University logo, first approved by the War Department in 1929 for the Air Corps Tactical School, was adapted to its current form in 1994. The mailed fist represents war and the four lightning bolts represent the four major functions of an air force: the horizontal bolt is the fight against aircraft in the sky and the three bolts pointing toward the earth are bombardment, ground attack, and reconnaissance/surveillance. The colors blue and green represent the air and the ground, respectively.
