Appalachiosaurus montgomeriensis Diagram

This diagram of Appalachiosaurus montgomeriensis shows in white the portions of the skeleton that were recovered from a road embankment in the Demopolis Formation in Montgomery County. Most notable about the image is the two fused vertebrae in the tail, which indicate recovery from some sort of injury. The animal, which lived around 79 million years ago during the Cretaceous, was not fully grown at the time of its death and measured about 23 feet long.
