Alabama Croton

The Alabama croton (Croton alabamensis) was discovered in 1877 by state geologist Eugene Allen Smith. The plant's unusual leaves have silvery undersides that reflect sunlight and allow it to thrive in its extremely dry habitat. The yellow flowers appear in early spring and are followed by fruits in early summer.
