Edmund Pettus

Edmund Pettus was a brigadier general in the Confederate Army, served in the U.S. Senate, and was a leader of the Democratic Party in the state. He is best known today as the person for whom Selma's Edmund Pettus Bridge is named. The bridge was the site of important events in the civil rights movement.
