This fossilized impression was made during the Jurassic by a branched, chambered calcimicrobe, probably a bacterium or alga. It was found in the Alabama portion of the Smackover Formation, an extensive rock formation that runs from western Florida west to central Texas and from southern Louisiana north to southern Arkansas.
