The statue of Vulcan stands on Red Mountain overlooking the city of Birmingham. Designed by Italian sculptor Giuseppe Moretti, it was built to represent Birmingham at the 1904 World's Fair in St. Louis, a symbol of the city's industrial might. The statue rises 56 feet, the largest iron statue ever constructed.
