Hammondville is located in northeastern DeKalb County in the northeastern part of the state, just west of the Georgia border. It has a mayor/city council form of government.

According to 2020 Census estimates, Hammondville recorded a population of 408. Of that number, 97.5 percent of respondents identified themselves as white, 1.5 percent as American Indian, and 1.0 percent as two or more races. The town's median household income was $52,885, and the per capita income was $29,450.

Education
Students in Hammondville attend DeKalb County schools; no public schools are located within the town limits.
Transportation
Much of Hammondville lies astride U.S. Route 11 which parallels Interstate 59 that runs through a northern section of the town.
Events and Places of Interest
Just south of Hammondville are DeSoto State Park that offers camping, fishing, and hiking and the Little River Canyon National Preserve that offers canoeing, fishing, hiking, and kayaking. The J. C. Larmore Home (ca. 1880) and Council Bluff School (ca. 1903) are on the Alabama Register of Landmarks and Heritage.
