Pine Ridge

DeSoto Falls Pine Ridge is located in central DeKalb County in the northeastern corner of the state. It has a mayor/city council form of government.

History

Pine Ridge was originally an unincorporated community associated with nearby Fort Payne. The community incorporated as a town in 1982.

Demographics

According to 2020 Census estimates, Pine Ridge recorded a population of 750. Of that number, 55.9 percent of respondents identified themselves Hispanic or Latino, 43.5 percent as white, and 17.6 percent as two or more races. The town’s median household income was $70,671, and the per capita income was $17,114.

According to 2020 Census estimates, the workforce in Pine Ridge was divided among the following industrial categories:

  • Manufacturing (61.5 percent)
  • Construction (13.1 percent)
  • Retail trade (10.1 percent)
  • Educational services and health care and social assistance (5.0 percent)
  • Transportation and warehousing, and utilities (3.4 percent)
  • Finance and insurance, and real estate and rental and leasing (1.8 percent)
  • Professional, scientific, and management, and administrative and waste management services (1.7 percent)
  • Other services, except public administration (0.8 percent)
  • Arts, entertainment, and recreation, and accommodation and food services (0.6 percent)
  • Information (0.6 percent)
  • Wholesale trade (0.3 percent)

Education

Students in Pine Ridge attend DeKalb County schools; no public schools are located within the town limits.

Transportation

State Highway 35 runs through Pine Ridge running northwest-southeast. Interstate Highway 59 lies just east of Pine Ridge.

Events and Places of Interest

Little River Canyon National Preserve and DeSoto State Park are both located just to the east of Pine Ridge. The preserve offers canoeing, fishing, hiking, hunting, and kayaking, and the park has camping, fishing, and acclaimed hiking opportunities.
