Myrtle Hall

Myrtle Hall was the home of Republican politician Charles Hays. The home, completed in 1840, was constructed in the Raised Cottage style, which was brought to the area from the plantation communities of the Atlantic coast. It was built for physician John D. Means and his family and is located in Boligee, Greene County. After the defeat of the Confederacy by U.S. forces in 1865, he represented Alabama's Fourth District for four terms and became a defender of the rights of freed Blacks.
