Progressive Farmer

The Birmingham-based Southern Progress Corporation, an internationally significant publishing company, has its origins in the 1886 creation of Progressive Farmer, a weekly newsletter founded by Civil War veteran Leonidas LaFayette Polk in North Carolina. In the early 1960s, it was the most popular farming magazine in the nation and continues publication with a more modest readership.
