W. S. Harlan School

W. S. Harlan Elementary School is a public school in Lockhart, Covington County. Founded in 1903 as the school for the mill town, it was built to serve the children of the employees of the Jackson Lumber Company. It is the oldest active school in Covington County and was named in honor of the mill's manager, William S. Harlan. In 2018, Alabama governor Kay Ivey declared the school an official Bicentennial School.
