W. C. Handy Cabin

"Father of the Blues" W. C. Handy was born in this cabin in 1873. It fell into disrepair by the early twentieth century. Handy sold it to the city of Florence, Lauderdale County, in 1954 to save it from destruction with the agreement that it would be restored and turned into a museum. It opened as part of the W. C. Handy Birthplace, Museum and Library in 1970.
