Spence-Moon House

The Spence-Moon House in Livingston, Sumter County, was built in 1834 by planter James H. Spence. It is one of 11 homes constructed by a team of craftsmen from New Hampshire and Connecticut who were contracted by local planters and merchants. Owners of the home include U.S. congressman Samuel Williams Inge and engineer William A. C. Jones, who constructed the covered bridge now located on the campus of the University of West Alabama. One of few remaining Federal-style homes in the region, it is now owned by the Sumter County Historical Society and serves as an event center.
