Dwarf Horse Nettle

The dwarf horse nettle (Solanum pumilum) was believed to be extinct in Alabama until a specimen was found in 1993 on land that was previously occupied by the Little Cahaba Ironworks. This habitat is now protected as part of the Kathy Stiles Freeland Bibb County Glades Preserve of the Alabama Nature Conservancy.
