Spanish Fort Mardi Gras

A Mardi Gras float in the Crewe de Spaniards parade in Spanish Fort, Baldwin County, in January 2008. What is now coastal Alabama was the first American area to celebrate Mardi Gras, the first recorded observance being in Mobile in 1699.
