Alabama's Southern Border

The Gulf Coast “foot” of Alabama‘s southern border follows the shoreline from Grand Bay in Mobile County in the west to the northern edge of Perdido Bay in the east. Fort Stoddert, indicated on the map just above Mobile, was established in 1799 by the U.S. government to house soldiers and surveyors mapping the new boundary between the United States and Spanish West Florida.
