Amelia Boynton Robinson

Amelia Boynton Robinson (1911-2015) was a civil rights leader whose efforts in Alabama during the 1960s included joining Martin Luther King Jr. in the Selma to Montgomery march for voting rights. She sat on the board of directors of the Schiller Institute in Washington, D.C. She is shown here in her Selma home in a promotional photograph for her run for the U.S. Congress in 1964; she was the first Black woman from Alabama to do so.
