Vermilion Darter

The vermilion darter (Etheostoma chermocki) is found only in Turkey Creek, a tributary of the Locust Fork of the Black Warrior River. Because of its restricted habitat, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service listed the vermilion darter as an endangered species. Populations of this fish have increased in Turkey Creek since the 2013 removal of a dam.
