Chris Dickerson, right, with friend and training mentor Bill Pearl. Dickerson was a successful competitive bodybuilder from the 1960s to the 1990s and was the first African American to win the Amateur Athletic Union Mr. America contest. He earned a number of bodybuilding titles during the 1970s and capped his career with the sport's most prestigious award, Mr. Olympia, in 1982.
