Bell Factory

The Bell Factory, shown here, was established in Huntsville, Madison County as the Cabaniss Cotton Spinning Factory around 1818 on the Flint River and produced yarn and twine. Around 1834, the Patton-Donegan and Company purchased the mill and additional property and founded the Bell Factory, named for the bell that used to signal shift changes. The company produced yarn and cloth and closed after larger mills were established in the area in the late-nineteenth century. The bell is housed in a small tower on the grounds of Huntsville's Riverton School.
