Daniel Pratt

Daniel Pratt (1799-1873), the first major industrialist in Alabama, founded the town of Prattville, Autauga County, and played a central role in moving the state toward a more diverse and industrial economy. There, he began building cotton gins in about 1833 and expanded his business interests to include railroad construction, grist and flour mills, and finance.
