Mosses is located in central Lowndes County in the central part of the state. It has a mayor/city council form of government.
History
Mosses was an unincorporated community for most of its history. In 1979, however, the town faced a need for funds to improve infrastructure and incorporated in order to qualify for federal grant money. In 2012, the town received $350,000 to develop a sewer system.
Demographics
According to the 2020 Census estimates, Mosses had a population of 862. Of that number, 99.8 percent of respondents identified themselves as African American and 0.2 percent as two or more races. The town's median household income was $26,970, and the per capita income was $14,009.

According to 2020 Census estimates, the work force in Mosses was divided among the following industrial categories:

- Wholesale trade (2.9 percent)
- Transportation and warehousing, and utilities (2.0 percent)
Education
Students in Mosses attend the Lowndes County Public Schools. An elementary and a high school lie within Mosses city limits but have Hayneville addresses.
Transportation
Mosses is served by County Road 2, which runs east-south through the town.
